Cider Pressing at Plattfields park
I volunteered to participate in cider pressing with a community group in fallow field called Friends of plattfields park. We began with picking apples and pears from the trees in the park then washing, chopping and pressing the fruits. This experience made me realise that these communal projects were very enjoyable. People of various ages where participating, from students to the older generation. This gave them an excuse to leave the house, to participate and socialise within the community. For the younger generations it was something interesting and different to do. The cider, once matured in several months is then enjoyed within the community group. This strengthens community ties and spirit.
